Rabbi William F. Rosenblum, who was received by Pope Pius XII in a private interview in Rome last week, declared today that the Pontiff was seriously considering issuing a Papal pronouncement for greater understanding between Jews and Christians.
Rabbi Rosenblum said he would ask the Vatican in a formal letter to issue a pronouncement which would, 1.” Avoid presenting the ‘Passion’ in such a way as to place the odium for the Crucifixion on Jews;” 2. Specify that “nothing should be taught or preached in the name of Christianity that night incite hatred against Jews;” and 3. Stipulate that “individuals guilty of perverting spiritual thought to anti-Semitism should not be considered ‘worthy Christians’ by their respective churches.”
